ODYCÉE - Organizations, dynamics of knowledge and innovation in territories and value-chains

The scientific project of the ODYCEE team, a member of the Laboratory of Excellence “Structuring of Social Worlds”, aims to produce knowledge on the processes of innovation and support for change in agricultural sectors and territories.

Research of the Odycee team

The Odycee team brings together researchers in human and social sciences to promote dialogue between the sciences dealing with actors and their modes of coordination.

The overall context of our scientific project is linked to transformations of the context in which agricultural and agri-food activities are carried out, under the effects of globalization, technological and organizational changes, new societal expectations, and the emergence of new actors and new organizations in the agriculture sector. These transformations call into question historical conceptions of the “agricultural sector”, highlighting new issues such as the diversity and coexistence of forms of organizations, the question of transitions in agricultural and agri-food systems, and resource management in connection with the greening of agriculture.

The scientific objective of our project is to develop research on actors, their modes of coordination and the dynamics of knowledge production and innovation in the agricultural and agri-food sectors and in rural areas. It has three interdependent axes.

  • Axis 1. Characterization of productive organizations

This axis aims to identify and characterize contemporary developments in agricultural and agri-food production organizations. On the one hand, it looks at how traditional forms of organization, such as farms or cooperatives, are being transformed and renewed. On the other hand, it aims to understand the emergence of new forms of organization, created by new collectives, which may be less visible, but which are bringing new challenges to agricultural and agri-food production.

  • Axis 2. Innovation processes and dynamics of change

This axis aims to analyze the dynamics of innovation and transition in sectors and regions. Over and above the micro-analytical bases of these processes, observed at both farm and company level, this axis analyzes innovation dissemination and transition processes within sectors, particularly in collaboration with agronomist colleagues.

  • Axis 3. Qualification and management processes for agricultural and environmental resources

This axis aims to question the sphere of resource qualification and management processes (agricultural or environmental). The heterogeneity of stakeholders, the forms of collective action and the dynamics of the knowledge mobilized, particularly in agricultural production activities, are examined.
